Celebrations at Longdendale as students secure strong GCSE results
There was plenty to celebrate at Longdendale High School as Year 11 students opened their GCSE results and marked the end of five years of hard work, determination and resilience.
The school achieved strong results in English and maths at grade 5 and above, recognised as a strong pass. Students also delivered impressive performances across a wide range of subjects including the separate sciences, art, business studies, dance, music, religious education and sport.
Among the school’s top-performing students was Martha, who achieved an exceptional three grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s.
Martha said: “I have worked really hard during my time at Longdendale and it has really paid off in my grades. I am especially proud of achieving a grade 9 in Maths.”
Martha will now progress to Xaverian College, where she plans to study Biology, Chemistry and Maths before pursuing a career in healthcare.
Angelina also secured an outstanding set of grades, achieving one grade 9, five grade 8s, two grade 7s and one grade 6.
Angelina said: “I have had an amazing time at Longdendale and I am so pleased that all my hard work has paid off in my results.”
She will now continue her studies at Ashton Sixth Form College, where she plans to study Biology, Chemistry and Psychology before pursuing a career in medicine.
Head of School Michael Chiles said: “I am incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. Today reflects not only their hard work and determination but also the resilience they have shown throughout their time at Longdendale High School.
“Whilst we celebrate their results, we are equally proud of the remarkable young people they have become. They have embraced our values of Respect, Resilience and Aspiration and leave us with the knowledge, skills and character for the next stage of their education and future careers.
“My thanks go to our dedicated staff and supportive families, whose encouragement has played such an important role in supporting our students. We wish them every success as they continue to build their own Longdendale Legacy.”
The results mark an exciting new chapter for Longdendale’s Class of 2026 as students move on to sixth form, college, apprenticeships and other opportunities. The whole school community wishes them every success for the future.
