Longdendale High School Retains National Inclusion Award
We’re proud to share that Longdendale High School, part of Stamford Park Trust, has once again been recognised as a Flagship School by the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) – a national award that celebrates schools committed to inclusion, ambition, and high standards for every student.
The recognition follows a full-day assessment earlier this term, during which the IQM praised the school’s ongoing transformation under the leadership of Head of School, Michael Chiles. Since joining in 2024, Mr Chiles has led with a clear vision grounded in Respect, Resilience and Aspiration. The visiting assessor described Longdendale as “an exciting place to be – for both students and staff.”
At the heart of this transformation is a strong and consistent school culture. The Longdendale Way has brought clarity to routines, behaviour and learning expectations, while the Longdendale Legacy has helped build a sense of pride across the school. More than just their education, the Longdendale Legacy is about the impact students leave behind when they hang up their blazer for the last time, a lasting reminder of their effort, character, and contribution.
The report also highlighted the school’s innovative new spaces designed to support wellbeing and inclusion – including a soon-to-open Aspiration Centre, a redesigned Respect Room, and enhanced internal provision to keep students engaged, supported and connected. The school’s thoughtful support for students with special educational needs was praised, as was its strong communication with families through initiatives like personalised newsletters and the Family Handbook.
Attendance has continued to improve and is now in line with national averages, supported by early intervention, regular communication and celebratory events like reward breakfasts.
Beyond the classroom, every student takes part in a weekly electives programme, designed to broaden horizons, build confidence and develop leadership. From debate club and extended science to cheerleading and peer mentoring, students spoke positively about discovering new interests and making friends across year groups.
The IQM report recommended the school retain its Flagship Status, recognising the strength of its leadership, inclusive ethos and the clear impact of its ongoing work.
Michael Chiles, Head of School, said: “I’m extremely proud of the school staff who work tirelessly to bring the Longdendale Legacy to life so that every student can create a lasting legacy.”
This recognition reflects the school’s continued drive to ensure every student is known, valued, and empowered to thrive.
We would like to thank our incredible staff, students and families – this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without your commitment, support and belief in our shared vision.
