Longdendale Celebrates International School Award Accreditation 2025–2028

Longdendale is proud to announce that we have been reaccredited with the International School Award 2025-2028. This accomplishment reflects our school’s dedication to integrating a diverse and imaginative range of international initiatives across the curriculum.

This prestigious award recognises and celebrates Longdendale’s commitment to embedding international awareness and understanding within our lessons, helping students learn more about the world they are part of.

The International School Award is open to schools across the UK and provides a framework for developing international activities across the curriculum. It encourages collaboration with partner schools abroad and promotes opportunities for pupils, staff and the wider community to engage with global learning.

As our journey continues, we look forward to exploring new ways to further develop and implement international education throughout our school.

Our international work includes a variety of exciting projects and activities:

The Samba Transition Event and the BeLONG Festival, which brought together creativity, culture, and community.
The MFL Department’s trip to Barcelona, where students immersed themselves in Spanish culture, practised their language skills and explored iconic landmarks such as La Sagrada Família and La Boqueria. They also visited UNESCO World Heritage sites in Tarragona, including the Roman amphitheatre and cathedral, and enjoyed authentic Spanish cuisine.
An International Cheerleading Performance in Florida, where Longdendale students represented the school at a global event, gaining valuable cultural experiences and showcasing their talents on an international stage.
Celebrations of cultural and religious events, such as Eid, Lunar New Year and International Women’s Day. These occasions promote understanding and appreciation of different cultures and traditions.
In 2023, Longdendale hosted its first Climate Summit, where students took part in workshops exploring the complexities of climate change. This initiative reflected our commitment to raising awareness of environmental issues that affect communities around the world.
Michael Chiles, Headteacher of Longdendale said:

“I am delighted that Longdendale High School has once again been awarded the prestigious International Schools Award, recognising our continued commitment to global learning and cultural understanding.

This re-accreditation affirms our status as an International School of Languages, a recognition that celebrates the hard work, passion and dedication of our staff and students in promoting international awareness, language learning and cross-cultural collaboration.

Our Longdendale Legacy  is at the heart of everything we do. This award is a proud reflection of how we continue to bring that mission to life, enriching our curriculum and broadening our students’ horizons through meaningful experiences.

I want to thank everyone in our school community who has contributed to this achievement. It is a shared success and a testament to the outward-looking ethos of Longdendale High School.”

Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council, said:

“The school has earned this prestigious award through its inspirational international work and links with schools abroad. The International School Award is a chance for schools to be recognised for their important work in bringing the world into their classrooms. This is especially commendable when schools have been deeply affected by the global pandemic. The desire to build on their international work shines through, and it is with utmost pride that we celebrate their achievements. By embedding an international dimension in children’s education, these schools are preparing their students for successful lives in the UK or further afield, empowering them to be global citizens, and creating vital opportunities in an increasingly global economy.”

Longdendale looks forward to continuing its international journey, strengthening connections around the world and empowering our students to see themselves as confident, active and responsible global citizens.
