YEAR 7 TRANSITION

11 March 2022

We are delighted that your child has been offered a place at Longdendale High School. The Class of 2027 will be joining us at an exciting time in our journey. We look forward to welcoming you to our school community and relish the opportunity to work in partnership with you in delivering an outstanding experience for your child as he/she continues his/her educational journey with us.  We fully appreciate the challenges and hurdles our young people have faced over the past two years, and we will be doing everything possible to ensure that your child has a successful and happy transition to secondary school and is able to participate in and enjoy all the opportunities that we offer both in and out of the classroom.

Since January 1st 2021, Longdendale High School has been part of the Stamford Park Trust.  We are at a really exciting stage as we work together to support ongoing school improvement with increased opportunities for future progression for all of our students.  Longdendale High School has a real sense of community, and we have a clear vision about our priorities for school improvement for the future. Our shared core values and the clear mission statement ‘Excellence and Ambition for All’ underpins everything that we do and clearly reflects the emphasis we place on ensuring that all of our students succeed, but in a way that they know they really matter to us.  At Longdendale, we aspire to nurture healthy and happy young people who have the skills, both intellectually and socially, to face the challenges of the 21st century.

Reflecting the solid partnerships between school and home and the hard work and dedication of our students, Longdendale High School continues to celebrate a wide range of students’ successes both in and out of the classroom. Our current students are continuing to perform very strongly and outcomes show clear and developing progress. Our strong curriculum supports future opportunities for our students as they go on to their chosen routes in further education and training. Students that choose to come to Longdendale are making a fantastic choice for their futures.

Your support over the forthcoming years is very important to us. We are proud of our growing national reputation as a truly inclusive school and we are currently a national flagship school for the Inclusion Quality Mark.  The most recent report commented, “Parents are supportive and feel very positive about the school and everything it does to support their children.”  By choosing Longdendale as your child’s secondary school you are beginning your commitment to work together in partnership with us to provide your son/daughter with the best possible educational experience. Recent parent voice surveys completed at Parents’ Evenings and other events show the level of satisfaction that our current parents have in the way in which their children are educated and supported at Longdendale.   We are also delighted to share that we currently hold the Leading Parent Partnership Award in recognition of the work we do to engage and support our families to promote and support the best possible outcomes and life chances for our young people.  Please see our website for the full reports regarding both of these fantastic achievements.

We will be in touch again during the coming months to outline this year’s exciting programme for induction into Year 7, which is a comprehensive approach to guarantee the best transition possible.

Members of our Transition Team will visit children at their primary schools over the next few months. During this visit your child will meet members of the Year 7 Inclusion Team and current Year 7 Transition Student Leaders who are trained to work with the Year 6 students throughout the transition process.  A member of the wider Year 7 Inclusion Team will also meet with your child’s Year 6 teacher to gather information to help the school plan for any specific needs at secondary school.    Alongside these visits, our evening event for parents and carers on Monday 4th July will give further details on our expectations of working in partnership with home.  We also have two fantastic induction days scheduled for  Thursday 7th July – Friday 8th July, which will give all our new students the opportunity to be welcomed into our school community and develop their understanding of our school ethos. We will be in contact nearer the time with the final details regarding this.

To confirm that you accept the place offered to your son/daughter for Year 7 in September at Longdendale High School you do not need to contact the school directly.  We will assume that you accept the place if you have not contacted the school by Friday 11th March. However, if you intend to refuse the place, the Admissions Team at Tameside will not remove your child’s name from the list for this school until we have received in writing the confirmation of where your son/daughter has secured a place at an alternative school.

To ensure that we have the most up to date contact information and other important information relating to you child, please can we ask that you complete the attached questionnaire at your earliest convenience https://forms.office.com/r/RM83ALesRS if you have any difficulties completing the form online, please contact the school office to request a paper version.

May we take this opportunity of welcoming your child and wishing him/her every success as a member of the ‘Class of 2027’. If you have any specific questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us here at Longdendale.  I look forward to meeting you soon and to working with you over the coming years.

Yours faithfully
